Dragon Slayer
Slaying Dragons in real life is not for the weak.
Look, listen, look…..I go on and on about how hot my husband the retired fighter pilot is (HRFP). But he's not just a pretty face. Did I marry him because his torso and Daniel Craig's are identical? Maybe. But I STAY married to him because he unloads the dishwasher (twice a day when necessary) without complaint.
Husbands and dads get applause for the big stuff. The promotions, the ceremonies, the visible wins. What they don't get applause for is the behind-the-scenes stuff. Driving hours (at 3am) to pick up a sick freshman at college. Being the first call when another retired fighter pilot gets terrible news, and only feels safe only talking to another Bro about it. Handling the thing I forgot, the call I was dreading, the errand that somehow never made it onto my list but always made it onto his.
My husband is a Dragon Slayer of the highest order. And he doesn't just slay the dragons — he does it in a way that respects the dignity of the dragon and the idiot who summoned them.
Usually me.
